Lagos State Government Seals RCCG Parish

In a bid to uphold environmental standards and ensure the well-being of its residents, the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office has sealed off the administrative and kitchen complex of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Jesus Sanctuary, Masha, Surulere, Lagos.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the move via his official social media handle on Saturday, citing the church’s indiscriminate discharge of wastewater into the environment as the reason behind the action.

This decisive step underscores the state government’s unwavering commitment to maintaining a clean and healthy environment for its populace. The agency’s zero-tolerance policy towards activities detrimental to environmental sustainability is evident in its swift response to complaints from concerned residents.

According to Wahab, the enforcement of the Environmental Management and Protection Law 2017 against the church came after receiving numerous complaints from residents in the area.

Speaking on the matter, Wahab emphasized the grave consequences of illegal wastewater discharge, highlighting its potential to pollute the soil, contaminate groundwater, and spread waterborne diseases such as cholera, dysentery, and diarrhoea.

In urging Lagosians to refrain from such acts, Wahab stressed the importance of collective efforts in preserving the environment and encouraged residents to report any illegal activities that contribute to environmental pollution.

The sealing of the RCCG parish serves as a reminder of the state government’s resolve to hold individuals and organizations accountable for actions that compromise the well-being of the community and the environment.
