Labourer Arrested for Allegedly Impregnating 14-Year-Old Girl in Anambra Church
In a shocking incident in Ifite, Awka, Anambra, a 31-year-old labourer, identified as James Rich from Cross Rivers, has been arrested for allegedly impregnating a 14-year-old girl within the premises of a local church.
Rich, who is reportedly married with two children and expecting a third, confessed to the crime, admitting to defiling the victim on multiple occasions. He attributed his actions to temptation and pleaded for forgiveness, laying blame on the influence of the devil.
The victim, who faces developmental challenges, disclosed that the abuse occurred every Sunday morning before the commencement of the 6:30 am church service. Rich allegedly provided her with N200 to buy biscuits as part of the manipulation.
The State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Hon Ify Obinabo, expressed her dismay over the incident. She revealed that the suspect was apprehended with the assistance of the State Police Command after the matter was reported by the victim’s guardian.
Mrs. Blessing Nweke, the Special Assistant to the Commissioner, disclosed that the arrest took place after the victim’s pregnancy was confirmed. The Commissioner emphasized the commitment to ensuring justice for the victim and warned against such reprehensible acts, urging adults to refrain from defiling young girls, especially minors, to avoid severe legal consequences.
