“Labour Party is Almost in Its Dying Days” — Valentine Ozigbo

Valentine Ozigbo, a governorship aspirant in Anambra State under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has declared that the Labour Party (LP) is in decline and facing an imminent exodus of its key members. Speaking in an interview with Arise TV, Ozigbo said LP no longer reflects the image it projects publicly, describing the party as being in its “dying days.”

Ozigbo, who previously contested the Anambra governorship under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2021 and later joined LP, left the party earlier this year to pursue his political ambitions in the APC. Although he lost the APC governorship primary in April to Nicholas Ukachukwu, Ozigbo has filed a legal challenge against the outcome.

Commenting on the state of the LP, Ozigbo said many of the party’s elected officials have privately expressed intentions to leave. “There is hardly any elected member of the party who I have spoken to that is intending to run his re-election campaign under the same platform,” he claimed. He explained that his decision to join the APC was motivated by a desire to serve as a “catalyst for change,” rather than a blanket endorsement of the party’s past actions.

Ozigbo also weighed in on speculations regarding Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his political allegiance. He suggested that President Bola Tinubu may be quietly supporting Soludo’s potential re-election due to Soludo’s opposition to Peter Obi, the LP’s 2023 presidential candidate. Accusing the governor of political inconsistency, Ozigbo said, “I don’t want the type of deal where Soludo is APGA in the afternoon and APC at night. You create confusion. You are not strengthening the party.”

He urged Soludo to commit openly to one party, saying, “If Soludo wants to be APGA, be APGA. Be proud of your APGA.”
