Kwankwaso Joined NNPP with Hidden Agenda, Will be Prosecuted – Factional Acting Chair, Agbo Major
In a recent interview, Dr. Agbo Major, the factional Acting National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), shed light on the ongoing crisis within the political party and its former member, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Major stated that Kwankwaso, who was the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, and his supporters from the Kwankwasiyya movement, are no longer affiliated with NNPP.
One of the key issues discussed in the interview was the Kwankwaso group’s announcement of plans to redesign NNPP’s logo. Major firmly rejected this notion, emphasizing that Kwankwasiyya has no authority to tamper with NNPP’s emblem. He also pointed out that legal actions have been initiated in response to this matter.
Major addressed the Kano Governorship Election Petition Tribunal’s decision to nullify the election of Governor Abba Yusuf, a protege of Kwankwaso. He expressed concern over what he viewed as a biased judgment by the tribunal, suggesting that it displayed overt anger towards the Kwankwasiyya group. Despite this setback, Major noted that NNPP intends to appeal the decision through legal channels.
Regarding the alleged mismanagement of over N1 billion raised from the sale of forms during the election, Major explained that Kwankwaso was invited for an inquiry but did not cooperate, leading to his expulsion from NNPP. The matter has been reported to relevant security agencies, and the party’s accounts are under scrutiny.
Major also commented on the dwindling prospects of reconciliation with the Kwankwasiyya group, stating that they joined NNPP with hidden agendas, and their actions have only exacerbated the divide.
Addressing the issue of the national secretariat of NNPP, Major clarified that the so-called secretariat controlled by the Kwankwaso camp was never the official party headquarters. He confirmed that NNPP has returned to its rightful national secretariat at Willand Plaza in Wuse Zone 4.
In light of Nigeria’s upcoming Independence Anniversary, Major expressed his concerns about the state of the nation. He pointed out that Nigeria possesses abundant resources but lacks effective resource management, blaming bad leadership for the country’s woes. He called for unity and prayers to address the challenges facing the nation.
Lastly, when asked about the low-key celebration of Independence Day, Major suggested that it reflects the government’s awareness of the public’s frustration due to economic hardships. He implied that extravagant celebrations would be inappropriate given the prevailing conditions.
The NNPP remains embroiled in internal strife, with Kwankwaso and his supporters officially dissociating themselves from the party. As the party continues to grapple with these challenges, the political landscape in Nigeria remains dynamic and uncertain.
