ICYMI: Former NNPP Senatorial Candidate Peter Ekwueme Defects to ADC

  • Sets to host stakeholders from ADC in Oko Ward II,

A former senatorial candidate in the 2025 Anambra South bye-election, Peter Ekwueme, has resigned his membership of the New Nigeria Peoples Party and joined the African Democratic Congress.

In a statement released on Friday, Ekwueme confirmed that his decision followed “deep reflection and wide consultations,” signaling a significant shift in his political alignment ahead of future engagements in Anambra South.

Ekwueme described his time in NNPP as “impactful and enlightening,” expressing gratitude to party members for their shared commitment to a better future. However, he said his move to ADC is driven by a stronger alignment with his vision for governance.

“I am convinced that this step aligns better with my vision for effective representation, people-centered development, and the kind of leadership our communities truly deserve,” he stated.

He emphasized that the focus remains unchanged—delivering purposeful leadership and tangible results for constituents across Anambra South.

The development comes as Ekwueme prepares to host stakeholders from ADC in Oko Ward II, his political base, in what observers see as an early step toward consolidating support within his new party structure.

He also used the announcement to call on supporters and residents of Anambra State to align with his new political direction, urging “well-meaning citizens of Ndi Anambra” to join him in the next phase of his political journey.
