“Kogi Group Seeking Senator Natasha’s Recall Not Registered” – Corporate Affairs Commission

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has confirmed that the Kogi Central Political Frontier, a group advocating for the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, is not a registered entity. The commission clarified that it does not register political bodies or pressure groups, raising questions about the legitimacy of the petition submitted by the group.

The controversy began when the Kogi Central Political Frontier submitted a recall petition to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on March 25, 2025. In response to inquiries regarding the group’s legal status, CAC Registrar General, Mainunat Hamu Modi, stated that no such entity is listed in the commission’s records. A letter from the CAC, obtained by SaharaReporters, explicitly noted that the name “Kogi Central Political Frontier” does not exist in its registry.

Despite this revelation, the group proceeded with its petition, signed by Saliha Habib, calling on INEC to initiate the recall process. The petition accused Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan of failing to engage with her constituents and claimed that the people of Kogi Central had spoken with one voice in their demand for a new representative.

The situation has sparked widespread debate, with many questioning how an unregistered group without an official address could formally request the recall of a sitting senator. This has added to the controversy surrounding the recall process, which has already seen several twists.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, when contacted, stated that she had not received any official notification from INEC regarding the petition. She expressed skepticism over whether an announcement on INEC’s social media platforms constituted proper service of notice. She remarked, “I haven’t been served. Guess publishing it on their social media handles suffices? I will ask my lawyers. It’s all crazy.”

Meanwhile, INEC initially rejected the recall petition due to a lack of verifiable contact information from the petitioners. However, after the group provided the necessary details, the electoral commission officially accepted the petition on March 27, 2025.
