Kidnapped Anambra High Court Judge, Two Reverend Sisters Released

 

 

The Anambra community is celebrating the safe release of two Reverend Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Christ, and a High Court judge who were kidnapped in separate incidents last week.

 

Reverend Sisters Vincentia Maria Nwankwo and Grace Mariette Okoli were abducted on Tuesday, January 7, while returning from a meeting. Meanwhile, the High Court judge, whose name has not been disclosed, was kidnapped on Saturday, January 11, as he entered his residence in Awka.

 

The judge was released on Sunday, January 12, just a day after his abduction, according to a source close to his family. The news of his release sparked joy and relief among sympathisers who had gathered at his home.

 

The Reverend Sisters’ release was announced in a statement by Sr. Maria Sobenna Ikeotuonye, IHM Secretary General, who expressed gratitude for the prayers and support received during the ordeal. She noted that the sisters were released unconditionally and in good health. “I bring to your notice in joy that our dear Sisters Vincentia Maria Nwankwo and Grace Mariette Okoli… have been released unconditionally and in good health. We thank God and thank you all for your prayers and support all through these rough and uncertain days. May God forever be blessed through Mary our Mother,” the statement read.
