Two suspected fraudsters, 27-year-old Kabiru Bashir, and another 30-year-old Sadiq Ashiru, are in police net in Katsina for allegedly defrauding unsuspecting members of the public, through phone calls, posing as spirits, popularly called ‘Aljanu’ in the Hausa language.
The spokesman of the command, Superintendent of Police, Gambo Isah, in a statement, said both men are from Danbatta Local Government Area of Kano State.

According to Isah, nemesis caught up with the suspects, when they stole the Automated Teller Machine, ATM card of a female victim, Rabi’atu Garba, of Mani Area Council of Katsina State, and started calling her, that they were spirits ‘Aljanu’, and asked her to avail them with her card’s Personal Identification Number, PIN.
The police spokesman further hinted that the suspects deceitfully told her that they were about to bless her by sending one million Naira to her account, and directed her to go to her bank and update her account.
Isaiah said the victim became suspicious and reported the matter at the Katsina Central Police Station, which led to their arrest.

He noted that they both confessed to committing the offence and stated that they have defrauded several other unsuspecting persons in the state, through the same modus operandi.
In the course of investigation and search, the following items were recovered from them, which include: One Honda vehicle, an Identity card bearing one Kabiru Bashir of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, 2 ATM cards, 4 GSM handsets, and the sum of one hundred and twenty-six thousand Naira.
He, however, revealed that investigation is ongoing.
