The Lagos State People’s Democratic Party(PDP) ably led by Engr Adedeji Doherty has commiserated with the Lagos State Government and indeed the Ohaneze Ndigbo Community in Lagos State over the death of Rear Admiral (rtd) Ndubuisi Godwin Kanu.

He was reported to have died after a brief illness at the age of 77 years.

The cause of his death has not yet been ascertained.

Ndubuisi Kanu was born in Abia State in 1943. He Joined the navy, he went to India for cadet training. His naval career included positions in Personnel, Logistics and Training. He obtained honorary Doctorate Degrees from the Imo State University and the Federal University of Technology, Owerri.

He was a former Military Administrator of Lagos State in 1977, he left office in July 1978.

After retirement, he joined the pro-democracy movement and played a leading role in the agitation for the actualization of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election.

Kanu became a top National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) chieftain and became Chairman of the coalition in 2013.

On June 12, 2014, the Governor Babatunde Fashola led administration named a recreational park in Alausa, Ikeja, the Ndubuisi Kanu Garden Park, to honour him, as part of activities to mark the 21st anniversary of the annulment of June 12, 1993 Presidential Elections on June 12, 2014.

Engr Doherty eulogized the elder statesman, describing him as a man who loved peace and an admirer and supporter of the People’s Democratic Party.

He prayed that his ever gentle soul would rest in peace, while also praying that God would grant his family and friends the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.
