Kano Hisbah Commander Sheikh Daurawa Steps Down Amidst Governor Yusuf’s Critique
Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, the Commander General of Kano Hisbah Board, has resigned from his position. This announcement was made via a brief video posted on his official Facebook page on Friday.
Daurawa’s decision to step down follows Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s recent criticism of the Hisbah board’s evolving methods in tackling immoral activities within the state. Governor Yusuf, addressing religious scholars at the Government House on Thursday, expressed disapproval, particularly towards the approach of raiding public spaces to apprehend alleged prostitutes, deeming it uncivilized.
The Governor also raised concerns about the methods employed by Hisbah in apprehending suspects, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive review to rectify societal wrongs.
In response to Governor Yusuf’s remarks, Sheikh Daurawa defended the Hisbah board’s actions under his leadership, citing efforts to address immorality, especially influenced by social media figures. Daurawa maintained that their actions were aligned with Islamic principles. However, he concluded his statement by tendering his resignation, expressing well-wishes for the governor and his administration.
