Kamala Harris Raises $81 Million in 24 Hours, Breaking Fundraising Records
In an unprecedented show of support, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has shattered fundraising records by amassing over $81 million within 24 hours following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race. This substantial sum, which includes contributions from the Democratic National Committee and various joint fundraising committees, is the largest 24-hour total ever recorded in U.S. campaign history.
President Biden’s announcement to step down from the race has shifted the spotlight to Harris, though she has not yet confirmed her candidacy. In her public remarks, Harris praised Biden’s service and hinted at the new chapter ahead.
The Vice President’s campaign spokesperson, Kevin Munoz, highlighted the historic nature of this fundraising achievement, attributing it to the grassroots energy and enthusiasm that now propels Harris forward. Meanwhile, Future Forward, a major Democratic super PAC, reported an additional $150 million in commitments, further bolstering Harris’ position.
This remarkable fundraising momentum positions Harris as the frontrunner for the Democratic Party’s nomination. With endorsements from the majority of Democratic governors and Congress members, she is well-placed to secure the nomination at the upcoming national convention.
Harris’ financial support is essential in her anticipated battle against former President Donald Trump, who has also garnered significant fundraising totals amidst his legal battles and a recent assassination attempt.
Among the 888,000 donors contributing to Harris’ campaign, over half were first-time contributors for the 2024 cycle. This broad-based financial backing reflects a unifying momentum among Democratic supporters, despite a few dissenting voices within the donor community.
Prominent Democratic fundraisers express confidence in Harris’ ability to lead and build on the accomplishments of the Biden administration. As the campaign ramps up, Harris’ team is leveraging this initial surge to maintain its competitive edge.
The Biden-Harris campaign infrastructure, along with substantial funds raised previously, now transitions to support Harris, underscoring her strengthened campaign efforts. Official paperwork filed recently with the Federal Election Commission solidifies Harris as the principal candidate, with new fundraising initiatives already underway.
As Harris mobilizes her campaign, her message to supporters remains clear: “Now is our chance to make history.”
