JUST IN: State Commissioner for Internal Security Dies in Road Crash
Gombe State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Colonel Abdullahi Bello (rtd), has died in a road accident along the Malam Sidi–Gombe road.
The State Government confirmed his death in a statement released on Friday by the Director-General, Press Affairs, Ismaila Uba Misilli. According to the statement, the late Commissioner was involved in the crash while returning from Maiduguri, Borno State, after attending the North East Regional Consultation on the Development of a National Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) framework. He died alongside his police orderly, Sergeant Adamu Husaini.
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Colonel Bello as a disciplined officer and a dedicated public servant who brought his wealth of military experience, leadership, and patriotism to the service of Gombe State.
“Col. Abdullahi Bello (rtd) will be remembered as a pillar of discipline, courage, and selfless service. He carried out his duties with unmatched diligence and a deep sense of responsibility. His demise is a monumental loss not only to his family and our government but to Gombe State and Nigeria at large,” the governor stated.
Governor Yahaya also recalled the late Commissioner’s contributions to the State Executive Council, particularly in strengthening internal security, promoting inter-agency collaboration, and advancing community safety.
On behalf of the government and people of Gombe State, the governor extended his condolences to the deceased’s family, associates, and the Balanga Local Government community, praying for Allah’s forgiveness and for Aljannat Firdaus to be granted to the departed souls. He also sympathised with the family of the late police orderly and prayed for the speedy recovery of the Commissioner’s driver, who is receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the crash.
Details regarding the funeral prayers for Colonel Bello and Sergeant Husaini will be announced later.
