JUST IN: Oyo Catholic Bishop Emeritus Julius Adelakun Dies at 91
The Catholic Diocese of Oyo has announced the death of Bishop Emeritus Julius Adelakun. He passed away on Friday at the age of 91, the Bishop of Oyo Catholic Archdiocese, Most Rev. Emmanuel Badejo, confirmed in a statement on Saturday.
Bishop Adelakun led the Diocese of Oyo for 36 years, from April 13, 1973, until his retirement on November 4, 2009. In his statement, Bishop Badejo described him as “a man who lived a full, impactful life and whose witness touched multitudes.”
“He shepherded the Diocese of Oyo with dedication for decades, leaving behind a legacy of faithful service to God, the Church, and humanity,” Badejo added. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course, and the Bishop urged Catholics of Oyo to continue praying for the repose of his soul.
Born on November 4, 1934, Julius Adelakun was ordained a Catholic priest on June 27, 1965, and became bishop on February 11, 1973.
