JUST IN: Scores Feared Dead in Anambra Cult Clash During Nibo Festival
Scores of people are feared dead following a violent clash between rival cult groups in Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State. The incident occurred on Sunday during the Nibo Onwa Asaa festival, sparking widespread panic and chaos in the area.
Eyewitnesses reported heavy gunfire during the festival, with multiple casualties as a result. “Gunshots were heard everywhere, causing panic and confusion,” said a local resident. Though the exact number of deaths remains unverified, reports suggest that several people were gunned down near a restaurant, with more fatalities in other parts of the community.
In a separate but related incident, gunmen reportedly opened fire in Nodu Village, Okpuno, leaving additional victims feared dead.
The Anambra State Police Command has responded by deploying more security operatives to the area. Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed that Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Obono Itam ordered immediate action following the suspected cult-related clash. Ikenga urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward, assuring that all reports would be treated with confidentiality.
