JUST IN: Rivers APC Rejects Impeachment Move Against Governor Fubara
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has rejected the impeachment process initiated against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, warning that the move could destabilize the state and harm the party.
The party’s leadership said it was aware of recent developments in the Rivers State House of Assembly and acknowledged the legislature’s constitutional role in governance. However, it described the impeachment effort as unacceptable and politically driven.
According to the APC, the move reflects unresolved internal disputes from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that should not be allowed to affect the APC-led government in Rivers State.
The party noted that the impeachment threat is linked to budgetary issues and recalled that during the period of emergency rule, a one-year budget of ₦1.485 trillion was presented to the National Assembly by the President and approved by the Senate on 25 June 2025 and by the House of Representatives on 22 July 2025. The APC said the budget is expected to run until August 2026.
It added that the governor is not constitutionally compelled to present a supplementary budget if he is satisfied with the existing one, pointing out that the constitution permits a six-month spending window into a new fiscal year.
The APC leadership urged members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, particularly those elected on the party’s platform, to resist external pressure aimed at undermining the state government.
The party said it would take all necessary steps to prevent internal conflicts from weakening the APC administration in Rivers State and called on lawmakers to immediately halt the impeachment process to protect the party’s image and ensure continued development in the state.
The statement was signed by the Rivers State APC spokesperson, Darlington Nwauju.
