JUST IN: “Resign and Face Your Obsession With Rivers Politics” — APC National Secretary Tackles Wike Over Threat

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, has asked the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to resign from his ministerial position and concentrate on political activities in Rivers State.

Basiru made the call on Monday while responding to comments by Wike, whom he accused of interfering in the internal affairs of the ruling party despite not being a member.

The APC secretary said he was not intimidated by what he described as veiled threats from the minister, adding that his political experience had prepared him to withstand pressure.

Basiru had earlier expressed support for Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, amid the political tensions between the governor and Wike. He also cautioned APC South-South Chairman, Victor Giadom, and other party officials against making statements that could be interpreted as taking sides in the Rivers crisis.

Wike, during a “thank-you” visit to Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State on Monday, warned Basiru to stay away from the state’s politics. He also suggested that some political actors were drawn to Rivers State because of its financial resources.

In a statement personally signed by him, Basiru rejected Wike’s remarks, insisting that the minister had no authority to comment on APC matters.

“My advice to him is that he should resign as minister and face his obsession with Rivers politics,” Basiru said.

He stressed that, as national secretary, his responsibilities cover the affairs of the APC nationwide and are not limited to any state.

Basiru also dismissed suggestions that he had any interest in Rivers State funds, describing the allegation as false and inconsistent with his public record.

He maintained that his conduct as APC national secretary was guided by integrity and that he could not be questioned by someone who does not belong to the party.
