JUST IN: PDP BoT in Emergency Meeting as Wike Fallout Deepens, HQ Sealed

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is currently holding a high-stakes closed-door meeting at the Bauchi Governor’s Lodge in Abuja as internal tensions threaten to derail the party’s cohesion and operations. The emergency session, which commenced at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, is aimed at resolving the deepening rift involving Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as well as addressing the recent shutdown of the party’s national headquarters.

Wike’s withdrawal from the party’s ongoing reconciliation talks has intensified the crisis. The former Rivers State Governor has accused key party figures, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, of dishonesty, a move that has further fractured party unity. A party source told SK Blog, “The BoT is trying to sort out the issues with Wike. He pulled out of the peace talks and accused leaders like Seyi Makinde of not being truthful.”

The meeting is being attended by a cross-section of PDP leaders including Acting National Chairman Umar Iliya Damagum; Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah; Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri; Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang; Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri; and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who is also Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum. Other prominent figures present are Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, BoT member Ben Obi, retired Navy Commodore Olabode George, former Information Minister Jerry Gana, former Niger State Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, former PDP Ministers’ Forum Chair Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, and former Women Affairs Minister Josephine Anenih.

Also on the agenda is the abrupt closure of the PDP’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, by the Federal Capital Territory Administration over 28 years of unpaid ground rent. The shutdown has compelled the party to temporarily operate from the Bauchi Lodge, underlining the administrative strain facing the PDP. “They’re also dealing with the fact that the party’s headquarters has been shut down by the FCTA over unpaid rent, which is why they’re meeting at the lodge instead,” the source added.

The BoT is additionally considering postponing the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting originally scheduled for Tuesday. The delay is being proposed to allow for deeper consultations and potential resolution of the party’s internal disputes. “The NEC meeting might be pushed back to give more time to settle these internal conflicts,” the source revealed.
