(JUST IN) Paris 2024: Nigeria’s D’Tigress Make History with Quarterfinal Berth After Defeating Canada
Nigeria’s D’Tigress have qualified for their first-ever quarterfinal at the Olympic Games after a resounding victory over Canada on Sunday.
The Nigerian women’s basketball team needed a win to secure their place in the knockout stage, and they delivered with a thrilling 75-54 comeback against the world No. 5 ranked team.
Starting the Summer Games as the lowest-ranked team at 12th, D’Tigress have defied the odds by beating both world No. 3 Australia in their opening game and Canada to reach the last eight. Their only loss came against host France in the second match.
D’Tigress ignited the third quarter with an 11-0 run, pushing their lead to 9 points. Key players like Ezinne Kalu, Promise Amukamara, and Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah were instrumental in this decisive performance.
