JUST IN: ‘No Weapon of Terrorism Found on Kanu During His Arrest’ – DSS Witness Tells Court

A witness for the Federal Government revealed in the Federal High Court in Abuja that no weapon associated with terrorism or violence was found on Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Biafra nation agitation, during his arrest on October 15, 2015, in Lagos. The witness, identified as PWAAA, an operative of the Department of State Services (DSS), also stated that no arms or items indicating public disturbance were recovered from the woman arrested alongside Kanu.

During cross-examination by Kanu’s lawyer, Kanu Agabi SAN, the witness confirmed that the items found with Kanu were personal belongings, noting that although the items themselves were not immediately harmful, the defendant’s intent could be another matter. However, PWAAA clarified that his role during the operation was limited to carrying out the arrest and obtaining a statement from Kanu, not analyzing the seized items.

The witness also admitted to analyzing Kanu’s cell phone but revealed that the report of the analysis was not submitted to the court because it was deemed irrelevant. Regarding the items that had been in DSS custody for nearly a decade, PWAAA acknowledged that they may have lost their value over time and might no longer be useful. He further stated that no one had been brought before Kanu to confront him regarding any terrorism-related issues.

Additionally, the witness confirmed that Kanu’s statement had been taken without the presence of his lawyer, a point that could raise questions regarding the legality of the process.

Among the numerous items seized from Kanu were several laptops, mobile phones, modems, a camcorder, microphones, headphones, various wristwatches, documents, and two passports, one Nigerian and one British, bearing different variations of his name. The list also included items such as perfumes, footwear, and bank cards.
