In a recent development, the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has announced the suspension of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the party’s candidate in the February 25 presidential election. This suspension comes as a result of alleged anti-party activities attributed to Kwankwaso. The BoT has also extended this suspension to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.
During a special general assembly held at the Rockview Hotels in Apapa, members of the NNPP voted to impose a six-month suspension on Kwankwaso. In addition to the suspension, the BoT took the step of appointing new national officers. Dr. Agbo Major has been named as the acting National Chairman, and Mr. Ogini Olaposi will serve as the acting National Secretary, alongside 18 other appointees.
Addressing the press at the end of the assembly meeting, Babayo Muhammed Abdulahi, the Secretary of the BoT, accused Kwankwaso of engaging in unauthorized political discussions with prominent figures such as President Bola Tinubu, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi. These discussions reportedly took place without the board’s consent.
Abdullahi further stated that the BoT had revoked Kwankwaso’s status as the national leader of the NNPP due to his alleged misconduct. He highlighted that Kwankwaso’s actions violated the party’s constitution and undermined the pre-election Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with groups such as the Kwankwasia Movement, The National Movement (TNM), and National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF).
As a consequence of these actions, the BoT declared the MoU void and emphasized that the partnership with the aforementioned groups had been severed. The board revealed that the suspension would remain in effect for six months, pending the outcome of an investigation by the Disciplinary Committee.
The newly appointed acting National Chairman, Dr. Agbo Major, expressed the intention to mend the divisions caused by the suspended NWC members. Major stressed the party’s commitment to maintaining its people-oriented ideology and encouraging displaced members to return.
The special general assembly meeting saw the participation of the new NWC and members from various parts of the country. This decision marks a significant development in the NNPP’s efforts to address internal conflicts and maintain the party’s unity and focus.
Good!
There must be Party Discipline.
