JUST IN: Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Resumes at Senate
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central has officially resumed duties at the National Assembly in Abuja. She arrived at the complex around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, accompanied by a crowd of supporters waving Nigerian flags.
Security operatives at the main gate barred the supporters from entering and later dispersed them with teargas. The senator, however, gained access alongside a few aides and proceeded to her office in Suite 2.05 of the Senate Wing, which had just been unsealed by the National Assembly management.
Speaking with journalists after taking her seat, Akpoti-Uduaghan said she had no apologies to tender, insisting her suspension was unjust. “I am actually worried as to what apology they expect from me. You cannot apologise for an injustice. The document that led to my illegal suspension, which was read by Senator Neda Imasuen, originated from the office of the Senate President. The signatures attached were merely attendance sheets, not endorsements. That makes the entire process fraudulent,” she said.
As of the time of filing this report, the National Assembly management had not issued a formal statement confirming whether she has been officially cleared to resume.
