JUST IN: ‘Impeach Gov Fubara Now’ – APC Directs Rivers Assembly
The opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a directive to the Rivers State House of Assembly, calling for the immediate impeachment of Governor Sir Siminilayi Fubara. This directive was delivered by Chief Tony Okocha, the APC Caretaker Committee (CTC) chairman in the state, during a press briefing held in Port Harcourt.
Chief Okocha’s directive follows Governor Fubara’s recent remarks regarding President Bola Tinubu’s involvement in the state’s political crisis, labeling it as a political rather than constitutional intervention. The majority of the State Assembly’s 27 members are aligned with former governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, leading to heightened tensions between Fubara and his estranged political mentor.
It will be recalled that Governor Fubara had on Monday declared the 27 members of the State Assembly as “non-existent,” further exacerbating the already strained relations between the executive and legislative arms of government.
Okocha made it clear that failure to initiate the impeachment process would result in disciplinary actions against Assembly members who are also affiliated with the APC.
