JUST IN: “I Will Consult Widely” — Jonathan Signals Possible 2027 Presidential Bid Amid NDC Defection Rumours
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has indicated that he may consider participating in the 2027 presidential election, saying he would “consult widely” before making any decision.
Jonathan made the remark on Thursday in Abuja while addressing supporters who gathered at his office to urge him to contest the next presidential election.
His comments come amid growing political speculation that he may join the NDC under a reported single four-year term arrangement and participate in the party’s presidential primary. The claims, however, remain unconfirmed.
Addressing the crowd, Jonathan stressed the importance of patriotism, peaceful elections and youth participation in Nigeria’s democratic process.
“It’s only patriotic citizens that build their nations,” he said, adding that peaceful and credible elections are essential for attracting competent people into politics.
He urged young Nigerians to remain active in the electoral process, particularly by exercising their voting rights.
Jonathan also reflected on his experience as an international election observer across several African countries, noting that leadership contests require serious national commitment.
“Presidential race is not a computer game, but I heard you, and I will consult widely,” he said.
The former president did not formally declare his intention to run but said the country’s future must remain a priority for both current and emerging leaders.
