Authorities in Kogi State have confirmed the safe rescue of children abducted from the Daarul-Kitab Islamic Orphanage in Lokoja, bringing an end to a multi-day search operation that had drawn widespread concern.
In a statement released by the Kogi State Government, the rescue was carried out in the early hours of May 6, 2026. The operation involved troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army working alongside other security agencies in a coordinated search-and-rescue mission.
Officials did not immediately disclose the exact number of children recovered or provide details on their medical condition at the time of rescue. However, confirmation that all abducted victims were safely recovered has eased tensions among families and residents affected by the incident.
Security agencies are expected to continue investigations aimed at identifying those responsible for the abduction.
