JUST IN: Gunmen Launch Brazen Attack on Kogi Electoral Commissioner’s Residence
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reported a daring assault on the residence of its Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi state. The incident unfolded in the early hours of Friday, approximately at 3:30 am.
According to INEC’s official statement posted on X, armed assailants confronted the security personnel stationed at the commissioner’s residence, sparking a fierce gun battle that endured for over 30 minutes. Reinforcements were called in to quell the attackers.
While there were no reported casualties, the intense exchange of gunfire resulted in significant property damage. The electoral umpire is actively cooperating with security forces to investigate the motive behind this unsettling incident.
