JUST IN: Former Kaduna PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate Defects to ADC

John Ayuba, the 2023 deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State, has officially resigned from the party and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Ayuba confirmed his defection on Monday during a phone interview and in a formal letter addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Ungwan Gaiya Ward, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area. In the letter, he cited what he described as persistent mismanagement and lack of direction within the PDP at the national level as the primary reasons for his decision.

“It is with a heavy heart that I write to convey my difficult decision to resign my membership of our erstwhile great party,” the letter read in part.

The former PDP candidate expressed concern over the party’s handling of internal issues and accused national stakeholders of engaging in anti-party activities, particularly during the 2023 general election. He said the party’s leadership had failed to act decisively months after the elections, leaving loyal members disillusioned.

“I have, over the last three years, watched with great concern the mismanagement of the future of our party at the national level by those who, I fear to say, do not mean well for its future,” Ayuba said, adding that senior figures had worked against the party’s presidential candidate in 2023.

He explained that his decision came after wide consultations with political associates and supporters, noting that remaining in the PDP was no longer viable. While expressing appreciation for the platform the PDP provided, especially the opportunity to run as deputy governor in 2023, Ayuba said it was time to move forward.

His defection adds to a growing list of high-profile exits from the PDP in Kaduna and other states, as the party continues to face internal divisions and post-election fallout.
