JUST IN: Fire Engulfs Emir Sanusi’s Palace in Kano

A suspected arson attack has ravaged a section of the historic Gidan Rumfa palace where Muhammadu Sanusi, the 16th Emir of Kano, resides. The fire, believed to have been deliberately set by unidentified individuals, consumed a significant portion of the palace located at Kofar Kudu, where the Emir holds court sessions every Monday.

According to palace sources, the incident occurred late on Friday night around 11 pm. The perpetrators allegedly forced their way into the palace, set the fire, and locked the doors before fleeing the scene. The fire inflicted severe damage, destroying the throne, air conditioning units, and other valuable items within the palace.

Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, stated that the agency had not received any distress calls regarding the fire, indicating the severity and suddenness of the incident.

Confirming the incident, Chief of Staff to the Emir, Munir Sanusi Bayero, Dan Buram Kano, assured the public that no casualties were reported, and the damage was minimal. He emphasized that measures are being taken to enhance the security and safety of the palace and its occupants. Additionally, investigations into the cause of the fire are underway to prevent future occurrences.
