JUST IN: EFCC Chairman Orders Personnel to Declare Assets
In a significant development today, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, the Chairman of Nigeria’s prominent Anti-Corruption agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has issued a resolute directive for all EFCC personnel to disclose their assets. This monumental step was unveiled during his address to the agency’s workforce at its headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
The directive, aimed at fostering transparency and accountability within the EFCC, was made clear by the agency’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, in an official statement. Mr. Olukoyede, who has already declared his assets, emphasized that this move is in alignment with international standards and the rule of law.
“The EFCC is a creation of the law. We must do our job in line with the dictates of the law. This is a standard international practice, and we would ensure that it becomes our established norm,” Mr. Olukoyede declared.
He further elaborated, “All of us are going to declare our assets; from Level 17, downward. I did mine, so there’s no reason for anyone to be afraid to do the same. Even the commission’s secretary did, and you all may also have done it in the past, but there’s a need for all of us to do it again. We will declare our assets, and we are going to investigate them.”
Mr. Olukoyede emphasized the importance of leading by example in the fight against corruption, stating, “We must live above board by setting the pace with good examples. As anti-corruption fighters, our hands must be clean, so we must declare our assets.”
This directive is expected to mark a new era of accountability within the EFCC, with the chairman’s call to action resonating throughout the agency.
