JUST IN: Court Grants Dele Farotimi ₦30 Million Bail with Strict Conditions
A Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti has granted activist Dele Farotimi bail in the amount of ₦30 million, with conditions that include the provision of two sureties who must own property or similar assets. The court also imposed a gag order, barring Farotimi from granting any media interviews.
Farotimi, who has been in detention since his arrest earlier this month on a defamation complaint filed by Babalola, was also ordered to surrender his international passport as part of the bail terms. The case has sparked widespread criticism, with many viewing it as a significant abuse of power under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which promised to uphold constitutional rights.
Farotimi, known for his book exposing Babalola’s influence on the judiciary, was brought to court on Friday morning surrounded by a large security presence. The decision to grant him bail was made within an hour of the proceedings starting.
