JUST IN: Court Acquits Ayodele Fayose of Money Laundering Charges
A Federal High Court in Lagos has discharged and acquitted former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, of all charges in his long-running money laundering trial. The case, brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), accused Fayose of involvement in the alleged laundering of N2.2 billion during his tenure as governor.
In a ruling delivered Tuesday morning, the court upheld Fayose’s no-case submission, declaring that the prosecution failed to present sufficient evidence to establish a prima facie case. The decision brings an end to years of legal proceedings that had cast a shadow over the former governor’s political career. The court’s judgment also permits Fayose to travel abroad for medical treatment.
