JUST IN: Bayelsa Governorship Candidate, Running Mate Resign from Labour Party
The Labour Party (LP) in Bayelsa State has suffered a major blow as its governorship candidate in the last election, Udengs Eradiri, and his running mate, Commodore Benjamin Nathus (retd), announced their resignations from the party. Their decision was supported by a significant number of local government chairmen within the party, who have also chosen to exit.
Udengs Eradiri, recently honored as a Fellow by the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), formally communicated his resignation through a letter addressed to the state chairman of the Labour Party in Yenagoa. In the letter dated December 8 and titled Letter of Withdrawal as Labour Party Member, Eradiri explained that his decision was driven by the need to pursue his political ambitions on a platform capable of delivering the quality leadership Bayelsa State deserves.
Eradiri expressed gratitude to the members of the Labour Party who supported his vision for a better Bayelsa during his candidacy. However, he cited challenges and internal party intrigues as obstacles to achieving their goals. Reflecting on the campaign, he described the journey of engaging communities across the state as a valuable and enriching experience.
Commodore Benjamin Nathus (retd) echoed similar sentiments in his resignation, stating that the decision to leave the Labour Party was motivated by a desire to align with a platform committed to advancing Bayelsa’s development. Nathus expressed appreciation for the support of party members during his tenure as deputy governorship candidate and acknowledged the lessons learned throughout the campaign.
Eradiri, who placed third in the recently concluded governorship election, revealed that he and his team are consulting widely to determine their next political platform. He emphasized that their choice will be based on the ability to deliver transformative leadership and move Bayelsa forward.
“We are consulting seriously and engaging all stakeholders to know the next political party to join. Our next party of interest will be such that will enable us to provide service to the people and move Bayelsa forward,” Eradiri said.
