JUST IN: Atiku Confirms Opposition Coalition to Challenge Tinubu in 2027
Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has confirmed the formation of a political coalition set to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections. Atiku made the announcement on Thursday, March 20, 2025, during a press conference at the Shehu Musa Yar’adua Centre in Abuja.
The event was convened in response to the recent declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu, a move that has sparked national controversy. Attended by political stakeholders and concerned leaders from across the country, the gathering served as a platform for discussing what many described as an attack on Nigeria’s democratic principles.
When asked directly if the newly formed coalition would act as the main opposition bloc against the APC in the next election cycle, Atiku gave a clear and direct response: “Yes.” His confirmation marks a critical moment in Nigeria’s political landscape, indicating a major realignment of opposition forces seeking to end the APC’s reign in 2027.
While full details of the coalition are yet to be revealed, Atiku and other participants at the briefing unanimously condemned the state of emergency in Rivers State, labelling it unconstitutional and a threat to democratic governance.
