JUST IN: Anambra Government Imposes Movement Restriction Ahead of Local Government Council Polls
As Anambra State prepares for its Local Government Council election tomorrow, Saturday, September 28, 2024, the state government has announced a restriction on movement to ensure a smooth electoral process.
In a public statement issued today by Dr. Law Mefor, the state’s Commissioner for Information, residents are advised that the restriction will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. across the entire state. The movement restriction follows a request from the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) as part of efforts to maintain peace and order during the election.
According to the release, the restriction applies to all residents except those involved in essential services and election duties. These include accredited journalists, electoral officials, observers, ambulances on emergency calls, and firefighters, among others. The government emphasized that this measure is crucial for the conduct of a seamless election, urging citizens to comply fully to avoid facing legal consequences.
The Commissioner expressed appreciation for the anticipated cooperation from Ndi Anambra and reiterated the importance of adhering strictly to the directive.
