JUST IN: 10 Dead, 7 Rescued in Tragic Building Collapse in Oyo State
A building collapse early Thursday morning in the Jegede, Olunloyo area of Ona Ara Local Government in Ibadan has claimed at least 10 lives, with seven people rescued from the debris.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred around 2 a.m., as the community was plunged into chaos and rescue efforts began in the early hours. The Oyo State Fire Service, led by General Manager Akinyemi Akinyinka, responded promptly after receiving an emergency call from the area.
“We received a distress call at around 2 a.m. this morning from Jegede, Olunloyo area regarding a building collapse,” Akinyinka confirmed. “So far, we have recovered ten bodies, and seven people have been rescued alive.”
The cause of the collapse remains under investigation, as local authorities and emergency services continue to search the wreckage for potential survivors. The Fire Service team has assured residents that the rescue operation is still ongoing.
