JUST IN: Former Lawmaker Dies Days Before PhD Defence

Former Oyo State legislator, Hon. Hamid Babatunde Eesuola, has passed away just days before he was set to defend his PhD thesis. The former representative of Atiba State Constituency and Chairman of the Oyo State Community and Social Development Agency (OYCSDA) died on Thursday morning after a brief illness in Ibadan, Oyo State’s capital.

News of his death was confirmed by Engr. Seun Adesiji, the National Vice President of the Alaafin High School Alumni Association, of which Eesuola was a prominent member. Speaking with Leadership, Adesiji said, “Yes, I can confirm that Hon. Eesuola passed on this morning in Ibadan. His close associates have confirmed that his body is being conveyed to Oyo for burial.”

According to associates, Eesuola had recently complained of a throat irritation, which eventually led to his hospitalization at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan. Elder Kayode Oladokun, one of Eesuola’s longtime political allies, confirmed the news from the family home, where preparations were underway for his burial according to Islamic rites.

Hon. Eesuola was a dedicated member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, and his death has left a significant void among his colleagues, friends, and community members. His passing is felt deeply within the political and social circles of Oyo, especially as he was nearing a significant academic milestone with his upcoming PhD defense.
