JUST IN: Finally, Power Restored Across Northern States After Prolonged Blackout

After ten days of darkness, power has been restored to four northern states—Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe, and Benue—following a prolonged blackout that impacted millions. The power outage, which began due to a fault in the 330kV transmission line connecting Benue and Enugu states, led to widespread disruptions in daily life and business operations across the region.

Electricity returned around 7:20 p.m. on Wednesday evening, bringing a wave of relief and jubilation, particularly in Jos, Plateau’s capital, where residents took to the streets to celebrate. Many expressed joy after enduring days of unreliable power that disrupted households, strained businesses, and led to increased reliance on costly generators.

The blackout affected numerous sectors, with small businesses facing the harshest impact as production costs surged and operations slowed or halted. Residents also shared stories of challenges in maintaining food supplies and communication during the outage.

A representative from the Jos Electricity Distribution Company explained that technical teams had been working to resolve the issue but faced delays due to the complex nature of the fault. Now that power is restored, engineers are conducting additional assessments to prevent future disruptions in the affected states.
