Junior Pope: Soludo’s Wife Plans to Equip More People with Life-Saving Skills

The wife of the Anambra governor, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has announced plans to expand her non-governmental movement, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative, to provide more people with essential life-saving skills to address emergencies in the household.

Mrs. Soludo’s announcement follows the tragic and preventable death of Nollywood actor Paul Odonwodo, known as “Junior Pope,” who was involved in a boat accident during a film shoot.

By expanding the program, Mrs. Soludo aims to equip more individuals with practical knowledge of basic life-saving procedures, such as responses to drowning, electrocution, concussion, fainting, and choking.

Her initiative, in collaboration with the Red Cross Society, has already been providing training in schools and communities where Healthy Living Clubs operate. Now, she plans to extend these programs to all communities in Anambra to ensure widespread access to these critical skills.

Mrs. Soludo emphasized the importance of Basic Life Support (BLS) as a key pillar of her program. She stressed the need for everyone to have basic knowledge of how to respond effectively in emergencies.

She expressed regret over the loss of many lives in avoidable situations where basic life-saving skills such as CPR, mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, or the removal of foreign bodies obstructing airways were needed.
