I’ve Totally Lost Confidence in PDP Leadership – Fabiyi Blasts Party Over Failure to Punish Wike
A former Director of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign, Oladimeji Fabiyi, has strongly criticized the party’s leadership, accusing them of irresponsibility and complicity with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking on Arise News, Fabiyi expressed frustration over the PDP’s failure to take disciplinary action against high-profile members who openly worked against the party during the 2023 general elections, particularly the former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike.
Fabiyi said the PDP has been plagued by internal issues since its defeat in the last election, and that the National Working Committee (NWC) has not shown the courage or integrity needed to address the situation. He pointed out that Wike, who publicly admitted to supporting APC candidate Bola Tinubu after losing the PDP presidential ticket to Atiku Abubakar, remains unpunished despite his actions undermining the party.
He lamented that Wike, along with four other governors, actively sabotaged the PDP’s chances in the 2023 presidential election by supporting Tinubu, who was eventually declared President by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Fabiyi said the inaction of the PDP leadership on this betrayal reflects a broader failure of accountability within the party.
Fabiyi called for the removal of the current leadership, stating that he has lost all confidence in their ability to lead the party effectively. He criticized their handling of reconciliation efforts and questioned the credibility of initiatives led by prominent figures such as Bukola Saraki, claiming that such efforts lack sincerity and direction.
He further described the PDP Governors’ Forum as a gathering of compromise rather than a strategic force for party unity and progress. According to him, party loyalists expected serious conversations and decisive actions from the forum, but have instead been disappointed by a lack of resolve.
Fabiyi concluded that unless the PDP tells itself the hard truths and enforces discipline, it will continue to flounder in irrelevance and disunity.
