“I’ve Survived on Selling Human Parts for 10 Years,” Suspect Confesses After Arrest in Ogun
Residents of Kulanla Odomoola in Ogun State were thrown into shock on Saturday following the arrest of a suspected human parts dealer who confessed to surviving on the trade for the past ten years.
The suspect, identified simply as Gani, was apprehended by troops of the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, operating under the 35 Artillery Brigade, during a routine patrol in the area. He was reportedly on his way to deliver a human body part to a prospective buyer when he was intercepted. Soldiers intervened just in time to rescue him from an angry mob that had accosted him and was on the verge of lynching him.
During interrogation, Gani admitted that he sourced the human parts from cemeteries and abandoned corpses. “I have been surviving on selling human parts for the last 10 years,” he confessed. “I dig up most of the parts I sell from newly dug graves in cemeteries while I get others from corpses abandoned by the roadsides.” His shocking confession, made in the presence of soldiers and residents, triggered outrage and demands for swift justice across the community.
Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 81 Division Nigerian Army, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Sunday. He noted that the prompt action of the troops prevented mob violence and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
Following his arrest, Gani, along with exhibits recovered from him, was handed over to the Nigerian Police at Noforija for further investigation and possible prosecution.
