It’s Fake News! DSS Denies Hacking Phone of Premium Times Staff, Siege
The Department of State Services (DSS), has described as fake news, reports that it laid siege to the premises of Premium Times and home of its Editor.
In a statement by its Spokesman, Dr. Peter Afunanya, the secret police also said allegations of hacking the phone of a staff of the news medium was false.
“The report that the DSS is laying siege on Premium Times and has hacked the phones of one of its staff is false in its entirety. It is unfounded and just a needless sensationalism.
“There is no such operation at the moment by the Service targeted at the Premium Times, its Editor or staff. If there is any need for the DSS to discharge its duty, it sure has to do that with every sense of decency and in accordance with laid down procedures.
“Now, the Service is not anywhere near the news agency. Therefore, the report should be disregarded. It is fake news,” he said.
DSS had on Sunday reportedly visited the home of Premium Times Editor, Musikilu Mojeed in a bid to trace the source of the leaked memo by the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno which was published by one of its journalists, Samuel Ogundipe. Ogundipe has reportedly gone into hiding in the wake of the alleged manhunt.
