ISWAP Attacks Military Camp in Pulka, Borno; Casualties Reported
Suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have attacked a Nigerian military camp in Pulka, Borno State, setting parts of the facility on fire.
Residents said the assault began late Saturday night and lasted about 90 minutes. Continuous gunfire was heard across the town during the attack.
Satellite-based data from the Fire Incident and Risk Management System (FIRMS) indicate that fire broke out at the camp during the incident.
Sources within the community reported casualties among military personnel, although authorities have not released official figures. Security operatives were said to have mobilised in response, but there has been no formal update on the outcome of any counter-operations.
The development follows another security incident in Borno State earlier in the week. On Friday, suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters abducted five civilians in Doro Baga, Kukawa Local Government Area.
The abduction reportedly occurred around 7 a.m. at a fish market, where the victims had gone to purchase fresh produce. Armed men stormed the market and took the individuals to an undisclosed location.
The victims were identified as Alhaji Sani Boyi, Bullama Dan Umaru, Baba Inusa, Abubakar Jan Boris, and Mallam Shaibu.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama cited sources familiar with the incident as confirming the details of the abduction.
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI under Sector 3, alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force and local hunters, reportedly responded after receiving distress calls. Security sources said intelligence had been gathered on the movement of the attackers and the possible location of the abducted residents.
Communities around the Lake Chad region, including Doro Baga, continue to face attacks and abductions by insurgent groups despite ongoing military operations in the North-East.
