Iranians Celebrate Khamenei’s Death Across the Globe
Iranians worldwide took to the streets in jubilant celebration following the confirmed death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Videos verified by AFP show people clapping, cheering, playing music, and waving pre-1979 Iranian flags.
In Los Angeles, members of the Iranian diaspora danced in the streets alongside supporters of Reza Pahlavi, the son of Iran’s former Shah. In Tehran, residents sounded whistles, honked car horns, and set off fireworks from their windows and rooftops, though large crowds were limited due to security concerns.
The celebrations erupted after Iran officially confirmed Khamenei’s death, following a US-Israel strike that targeted the leadership and killed several senior figures, including members of his family.
While expressions of joy were widespread, many Iranians remained cautious, recalling the recent crackdown on nationwide protests that left thousands dead. Despite these concerns, the response captured the sense of historic change, with cheering and music echoing across multiple cities.
