Iran Names Transitional Leadership Following Supreme Leader’s Death
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, alongside judiciary chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei and another senior member of the nation’s legal council, will lead Iran through a transitional period following the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, state television reported Sunday.
The announcement, attributed to Khamenei adviser Mohammad Mokhber, outlines the framework for governance during the interim period.
Following the news, thousands of mourners gathered in central Tehran. AFP journalists reported crowds at Enghelab Square, many dressed in black, holding portraits of Khamenei, waving Iranian flags, and chanting slogans as they paid their respects.
