IPOB-Linked Terrorism Foiled: Imo Police Recover Biafran Currency, Weapons from 15 Arrested Suspects
In a recent operation, the Imo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force announced the successful arrest of 15 suspected terrorists found in a forest located in the Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of the state.
During the operation, law enforcement agents seized a cache of weapons and items from the suspects, including an AK-47 rifle with 21 rounds of live ammunition, charms, a cut-to-size double barrel short gun, four locally made short guns, three rounds of live ammunition, and substances suspected to be cannabis sativa and hard drugs. Additionally, a militia camouflage T-shirt, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), and a Guinea fowl adorned with fetish items were recovered.
Notably, the police also uncovered a Point of Sale (POS) device used by the suspects to extort money from victims. Most intriguingly, various denominations of Biafran currency were among the items seized, highlighting the diverse nature of the criminal activities.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Aboki Danjuma, expressed commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents, especially with the approaching yuletide celebration. The arrests were a result of a sustained effort following confessions from a previously apprehended IPOB/ESN suspect by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad.
CSP Oladimeji Odeyeyiwa, leading the operation, employed tactical maneuvers to surprise the suspects at their hideouts in Obiangwu and Logara Forest. The suspects were compelled to surrender during the well-executed raid.
Commissioner Aboki Danjuma assured the public that a comprehensive investigation would precede the arraignment of the suspects in court. He urged citizens to support the police and other security agencies by providing timely and actionable information to combat crime effectively.
For emergency and distress calls, the Imo State Police Command can be contacted at 08034773600 or 08098880197. The Commissioner reiterates the commitment to maintaining a crime-free environment throughout the state.
