Insecurity: VDM Weeps, Vows to Storm Anambra After Kidnapping and Killing of Entrepreneur Ifesinachi Onyekere, ‘Fish Magnet’
Nigerian social media personality and activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), was visibly emotional in a video posted Wednesday as he reacted to the killing of Anambra businessman Ifesinachi Onyekere, widely known as “Fish Magnet.” The prominent entrepreneur was reportedly abducted over the weekend and later found dead, sparking nationwide outrage.
Onyekere, the son of a chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), was kidnapped from his home in the Ezinifite community of Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area, by gunmen who stormed the area in a brazen attack. His body was discovered days later on Wednesday, confirming fears of his tragic end.
In his online reaction, VDM broke down in tears while condemning the rising wave of violence and kidnappings in Anambra State and across Nigeria. He described the situation as a dire threat to the country’s business climate and the safety of entrepreneurs.
“The kidnapping and killings in Anambra State is too much. What is the hope of the entrepreneurs, what is the hope of those going into business in Nigeria?” he said.
VDM announced plans to visit Anambra on August 4th, where he hopes to lead a candlelight procession in honor of the late businessman. He also hinted at a public awareness campaign against kidnappings, including a walk through the fish market where Onyekere was well-known.
His emotional plea has resonated widely on social media, drawing attention to the security challenges plaguing parts of southeastern Nigeria.
