Insecurity: Seek Help or Resign, PDP Tells Tinubu

The Peoples Democratic Party has urged President Bola Tinubu to seek external assistance in addressing the country’s escalating security problems or step aside, following a new wave of attacks and mass abductions in northern states.

At a briefing in Abuja, PDP National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong said the kidnapping of students in Kebbi and Niger as well as worshippers in Kwara highlights what he described as the administration’s failure to contain a deepening security crisis. He argued that the government has not met its core obligation to safeguard citizens and should acknowledge its limitations.

Ememobong criticised both federal and state authorities for ordering school closures in the wake of the attacks, saying the move signals a retreat in the face of terrorism and further undermines education in a region already struggling with high numbers of out-of-school children. He accused the presidency of responding too slowly to the incidents and showing insufficient empathy toward affected families.

The PDP spokesperson faulted the president for assigning the response to the Minister of State for Defence rather than visiting affected communities himself. He said such actions reinforce public perception that the government is detached from the suffering of victims.

The party warned that without a coordinated and urgent strategy to tackle the surge in kidnappings, the educational and humanitarian toll in the region will continue to worsen.
