Infidelity Allegation Turns Deadly as Man Sets Wife, Children Ablaze in Abia
Tragedy struck Asa Umudim community in Osisioma Local Government Area of Abia State after a man allegedly set his house on fire, killing one of his daughters and leaving his wife and two other children in critical condition. The incident reportedly occurred following claims by the man that his wife was involved in an extramarital affair.
According to sources in the community, the suspect, said to be about 40 years old, allegedly doused his home with an inflammable substance and set it ablaze in a fit of rage, accusing his wife of taking calls from individuals he suspected to be her lovers. The identity of the man has not been disclosed by the police.
One of his daughters was trapped and killed in the fire, while the wife and two other children were rushed to the hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment. Medical personnel are working to save their lives.
Residents of the community, enraged by the incident, reportedly attempted to lynch the suspect before police officers arrived at the scene and took him into custody. The body of the deceased daughter has been deposited in a mortuary.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Abia State Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, stated that the police are aware of the case and that an investigation is ongoing.
