Impeachment Threats: Ignore Irrelevant Okocha, He’s Only Trying to Impress His Paymaster Wike – PDP Tells Rivers People

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has strongly criticized the Tony Okocha-led All Progressives Congress (APC) over calls for the resignation or impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Okocha, in a press briefing on Monday, had issued a 48-hour ultimatum for Governor Fubara to step down or face impeachment, accusing the governor of mismanaging the state and dragging it into chaos. He also cited the Supreme Court’s recent ruling, alleging that it indicated a breakdown of governance in the state and pointed to what he described as impeachable offenses.

Responding to these claims, PDP’s Publicity Secretary in Rivers State, Sydney Tambari Gbara, dismissed the ultimatum as baseless and described Okocha as irrelevant in the state’s political discourse. Gbara said the APC chieftain offered no credible reasons for his demand and accused him of making statements that lack connection to the current political reality. According to him, “Tony Okocha is a character known for speaking from both sides of the mouth and making illogical remarks. Nobody in Rivers State takes him seriously anymore.”

Gbara went on to describe the ultimatum as “laughable” and a disservice to the political integrity of the state. He alleged that Okocha’s comments were merely attempts to gain favor with political sponsors, and called on the public to disregard the threats. Gbara reaffirmed that Governor Fubara remains focused on governance, actively commissioning projects and working for the people of Rivers State.
