“I Was Not Part of This Decision” — Plateau Governor Mutfwang Rejects PDP Expulsion of Wike, Fayose, Anyanwu and Others
Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang of Plateau State has distanced himself from the motion adopted at the PDP National Convention in Ibadan that expelled Nyesom Wike, Ayo Fayose, Samuel Anyanwu, and several other party figures. In a statement released through his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, the governor said the issue was never discussed at the PDP Governors Forum nor at the National Executive Committee before it appeared on the convention floor. He stressed that the move does not represent his position.
Mutfwang described the timing of the expulsions as counterproductive for a party already battling internal strain. He argued that removing senior members at this stage would complicate efforts to restore cohesion and rebuild trust ahead of the next election cycle. According to him, the party should be focused on unity, dialogue, and collective problem-solving rather than actions that could escalate long-standing disagreements.
His stance follows a similar rejection earlier by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State, who also insisted that expelling key figures would deepen the party’s crisis rather than resolve it.
