“I Support Merger of Labour Party with PDP to Make Nigeria Great” – Peter Obi
Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, has expressed his openness to a potential merger between the Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
In a recent interview with NoireTV-GlobalBlackTV, broadcast on YouTube, Obi revealed his stance on the merger, emphasizing its potential to benefit Nigeria. “If the merger is to be able to govern Nigeria properly, unlock all those things that will make Nigeria a better place, I’m for it,” said Obi. “If it’s just a merger for election or state capture, I’m not for it or part of it. I don’t want to be part of anything like that.”
Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, made it clear that his political ambitions are driven by a desire to improve the lives of Nigerians, not personal gain. “I’m not desperate to be president. I’m desperate to see Nigeria work, especially for the poor people, because we have a lot of potential,” he stated.
This declaration comes weeks after Obi met with former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, who expressed support for a consensus candidate from the South-East. Obi acknowledged Atiku’s backing, saying, “I commend him, and I’m grateful for his statements, especially where he said he will support me if it (the presidential ticket) goes to the South-East.”
